A boat trip on Lake Jökulsárlon (English: glacier lagoon) in Iceland. A gigantic glacier snout pours into the cold water. Icebergs break off from it. On the open edges of the broken ice shell, millennia-old stratifications stand out, white as fresh snow, interrupted by very thin films of black volcanic ash.

The geological stratification of millennia corresponds to the geometrically staggered subdivisions of the image appearing in the scene. This abstract representation of the ancient deposition of snow and ash, slowly but steadily merges to a consistent whole.
