Installation in public space
Matthäikirchplatz next to the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin
492 x 472″ (1250 x 1200 cm)
2016
Pascal Fendrich and Martin Plüddemann were invited by the Berlin Project Space Festival 2016 to realise a project as representatives of the art space Bruch & Dallas in Cologne. The space at Ebertplatz in Cologne has a very distinctive floor plan that picks up on the hexagonal urban structure of the entire square. The artists transferred the ground plan in full scale to the open square next to the Neue Nationalgalerie between Potsdamer Straße and the Matthäuskirche by removing the top layer of the gravel covered ground. It was only through the subtle differences in colour and surface structure that the ground plan of the Cologne exhibition space was reproduced and thus carried to Berlin.
